3 years agoWhy did the sidebar item count dissapear with V8?
Just downloaded V8 for Mac and noticed that the sidebar item count for each category is no longer available. It should be an option in the Settings Appearance area, just like tags is.

Please bring back the item count in the sidebar. This is very useful information that is provided without the need for clicking, sorting, or performing any other function except to look. Until this is returned, 1Password is not as good as it was. Thank you.

Andrew, please add me to the list as well. I find item count very useful. It should be there at the top as it was in version 7. Thank you!

Thanks for this feedback, @georgedejm. I've added a vote on your behalf to the existing tracker for item counts on the sidebar and filed a new one for per-category sorting. I can definitely understand how these would be useful and appreciate you taking the time to let us know it's important to you!
If you have any questions or additional feedback you'd like to share, let me know. 🙂

I just finally upgraded to v8 from v6, and there just so many things that worked so well (and that I got used to) in v6 that are missing from v8. The item count being one of them. Why is it that new versions of software always take things that took zero or one click and hide it behind one or two clicks, for no good reason?
Another things being that in v6 the Category sorting used to be unique per Category (meaning Cat 1 could be sorted by Date, while Cat 2 could be sorted by Name), and it would remember it. Now it's the same for all Categories - if I change it for Cat 1 it will be the same when I switch to Cat 2.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts about this. We're doing our best to capture all the feedback we receive and advocate on your behalf, I appreciate the use case examples and understanding that not all 1Password users have the same workflow. I've added your comments to our internal tracker. 👍🏻

+1. I use the item counts primarily to quickly verify that items have synced across my devices. This use case has been hobbled by this change. At least make it an option for those of us who prefer to see the item counts always displayed.

I as one who really misses the sidebar count have given up on changing the minds of the 1pw Corpoate leaders to fix what wasn’t broken or do what their customers want.

+1 from me - I found the counter in the sidebar very useful; I appreciate that other users may not want this and therefore the best option would be to make this optional; not sure if I remember this correctly but I think pre version 8 you could switch the counter on and off
