Stop prompt to download app
How can you stop the pop-up that annoyingly keeps spamming your account to download the app or "Safari will forget your Secret Key if you do not sign in to 1Password every 7 days. If you don’t have it stored anywhere else, you won’t be able to access your account." I have downloaded the emergency kit. I do not want to download the app! And you can't click out of it unless you click "Or, save the emergency kit". I have downloaded the emergency kit! There has got to be a better way than forcing people to install they do not want to install!!! It's like a browser hijack within a paid service! "Hey, download the app". No thanks. "Hey download the app". No. "Hey download the app" STOP!!!!! "Hey download the app". If I wanted to download the app I would download the app. Stop spamming to download your app! How about finding a better way to handle the authentication than trying to force people to install they don't want to install?!? You are, after all, a company that sells authentication.
Hello onesNzeros! 👋
Welcome to the community! I can understand the frustration and I'm happy to explain why you're seeing this prompt when you sign into 1Password in Safari.
Your 1Password data is end-to-end encrypted using two secrets: your account password and your Secret Key. After you sign into 1Password in a browser, or an app, 1Password will save the Secret Key locally so that you only need to enter your account password to unlock and decrypt your items going forward in that browser or app. However, due to Safari's limitations in retaining the Secret Key for extended periods, users who do not sign in at least once every seven days are prompted to re-enter their Secret Key, as if they are signing in for the first time. This is an issue that is particular to Safari and other browsers like Chrome or Firefox aren't affected since they retain the Secret Key.
Therefore, this pop-up advises users who have only ever signed into 1Password in Safari to configure a secondary application, device, or browser for a more seamless experience so that you don't have to keep re-entering your Secret Key into Safari or risk being locked out if you lose your Secret Key. I can see how the "Or, save your Emergency Kit" wording in the prompt is confusing and I've filed feedback with the team to look into possible improvements in the future. As things are currently, you'll continue to see the prompt even when you've downloaded your Emergency Kit. This is expected behavior and an important warning that is displayed deliberately to prevent customers from being locked out from their data if they currently only use 1Password in Safari.
Signing into 1Password in any other browser (other than Safari), or installing the 1Password app on any of your devices, will prevent the prompt from showing up in the future.
