1password desktop windows app does not launch / open
I am re-opening a discussion that has been closed, since I am experiencing the same problem: since a few weeks, the desktop app in my Windows 11 environment (PC) launches sporadically, i.e. most of times it does not launch when clicking on its icon.
The only workaround that I found was to re-execute the installation file, which would result into the immediate launch of the app (ie the same way as double-clicking on its icon).
I don't have the same issue on my Mac environment.
Did anything change in a recent update?

FWIW I am having the same problem on Windows 11. The search bar shortcut works, the browser extension works, but the main window won’t open no matter what I do. I am about to try reinstalling. This is on 1Password 8.10.56.

I'm sorry that I missed your reply, I do see that my colleague replied to your email back in December. If you're still running into trouble then please reply to that email and the team can help further.

I often see the same problem, reliably after I let 1Password restart after it updates itself. I usually launch it from the Start menu to use it but no app window appears. If I open Task Manager (Processes tab, Background processes section) and kill the 1Password process with the black and white icon (there's usually one like this, the others are color), then relaunching it succeeds.
This started happening in the last month or two.

This is no longer a problem in the last week or two. Now using version 8.10.75.
Update for workaround above: Instead of using Task Manager I can instead right-click on the 1Password icon in the system tray, choose Quit. After that I can launch the program normally.

Thank you for the update! Just to clarify, are you still seeing an issue that you need to use the workaround for? Or do you not need the workaround anymore and everything is now working?

Hi Dave,
Here are the responses to your questions, in order:
- no error message, nothing happens
- opening from an app icon in the task bar. I also tried from the Start menu (where all apps are) and the same happens.
- I will need to test this since today, it opened properly (which is becoming less and less). Today I can see the little icon in that section.

Hello pdome! 👋
I'm sorry that 1Password for Windows isn't launching correctly. So that I can better understand the situation, can you tell me the following:
- When 1Password fails to open, do you see an error message of any sort? Or does nothing happen?
- How are you opening 1Password? From an app icon in the taskbar? From the desktop? From inside of a browser?
- When 1Password fails to open, do you see the 1Password icon if you click here:
I look forward to hearing from you.
