4 years ago1Password in Safari not activating when clicking inline icon, nor hotkey
Hi all - I have been on the beta branch until the GA release of 1Password 8, which I've really enjoyed.
I've also started using Safari today, switching from Brave browser (and weeks ago, Chrome). Brave and Chrome have previously worked fine on the beta.
I have installed the 1Password Safari App Extension from the Mac App Store, and when I click on the icon next to my address bar it loads my vault just fine.
When I go to log in to a website, I generally hit my hotkey, listed here as CMD+\
Sometimes it does nothing, sometimes it displays the new Quick Access search bar. Both don't fill my login form.
Also, if I instead click on the inline 1Password icon in the form field, nothing at all happens.
Anyone know what to try? I've restarted 1Password and Safari with no change.

OS Version: macOS 12.3.1

Thanks for the clarification. I’ll continue to allow them.

Hey @love2kruz:
Those configured websites you're seeing are certain test domains we have. 1Password for Safari needs the ability to read and alter the pages you visit in order to detect what needs to be filled, and then perform the filling action.

Jack.P_1P, it only works when I unlock the main 1pw program after restart. The browser icon shows locked, sorry I didn't catch a screenshot.
When I went back to System Preferences I noticed a warning panel, see attached and when I went to Websites I got a list of sites I have no idea what/where they are, and I'm pretty sure I don't want to share my data, see screenshots. Should I disallow them? I'm pretty sure my banking websites should be allowed, but any guidance is appreciated.
I will shut down my computer this evening and when I open it in the morning I'll unlock 1pw in the browser of Firefox and then see if 1pw will work in Safari.

Hey @love2kruz:
We're investigating an issue that sounds similar to what you're seeing. If you restart Safari completely, does that improve your state of play? Let me know!

I reinstalled 1pw8 and have been using it in Firefox. There are a few websites that I only access through Safari. When I installed the 1pw extension for Safari from the Mac App Store, version 2.3.5, it no longer acts as it does in Firefox or as it did in Safari. When I move the cursor to the login space, the extension is not presenting the dropdown with the login credentials for the website or when I highlight the 1pw icon.
The 1pw browser icon works and presents autofill. What troubles me is that I should be able to click inside the login area and get the login option immediately while in the login area, or at least by clicking on the icon within the login area.
Got any suggestions?

PeterG_1P, there is a whole thread concerning the pin to page feature for 1pw8. You should check it out and add more votes.

Hi @love2kruz, just want to let you know that I have submitted a vote for a "pin to page" feature in 1Password 8 on your behalf. Thanks for sharing your use case with us!

Alvin.L_1P, so the focus point is where the cursor blinks, wow didn't know it had a name other than cursor.
I have already provided a couple of sites to technical support that either don't have the 1pw icon or that would allow me to copy/past my login info that don't cooperate with 1pw. I got a technical response about it being a hidden login that some sites use. This is the time pin to page would be most helpful.

Hey @love2kruz :
Field focus is the field where the cursor / insertion point is (the vertical flashing bar when you type).
Can you share a website where you're experiencing this issue on so we can test it out on our end? If you'd prefer to share a website privately, please send an email addressed to support+forum@1password.com with the following information:
- a website where you're experiencing the autofill issue on
- your forum name: love2kruz
- the link to the forum discussion: https://1password.community/discussion/129500/1password-in-safari-not-activating-when-clicking-inline-icon-nor-hotkey#latest
I look forward to your reply and helping you further.

Jack.P_1P, I'm not sure what field focus is or does.
If it's the icon in the login space I do see it in many sites, there are sites where the icon is not available. There are sites where the login dialog disappears when clicking on the browser extension to show the login data, so autofill does not work.
If I've completely misunderstood field focus, please let me know.
