Bug: Generate Password Default Setting Won’t Save

No matter how many times I change it to Memorable and switch on “save as default,” next time I try to generate a password, it will go back to gobbledygook (or whatever the nonsense one is called). This is on iPhone and Mac.

  • Hello PandaCat! 👋

I'm sorry that you're running into an issue where the "Use as default" option in the password generator isn't being remembered. I assume that you're referring to the following in the browser extension:

Let me know if I have that wrong. Can you try the following steps in order:

    1. Open your browser.
    2. Click on the 1Password icon in the browser's toolbar.
    3. Click on the menu icon in the pop-up (it looks like three horizontal lines) and then click Password Generator.
    4. Switch the type to Memorable Password
    5. Turn on "Use as default for suggestions".
    6. Close the 1Password pop-up.

Then re-open the 1Password pop-up and the password generator. Do you still see "Memorable Password" as the current selection? If you don't then which browser are you using on your Mac and which version of 1Password in the browser is installed?

That was helpful troubleshooting. That actually does work correctly. What doesn’t work is when you use the password generator in the autofill thing. And when I was trying to document the steps just now, it did a new weird thing.

      1. Open the 1Password autofill in a password field
      2. It suggests a different type of password
      3. Click the controller on the bottom right of the box
      4. Select memorable password, three words, etc.
      5. Click “use as default"
      6. Repeat in another password field
      7. Result: Not a memorable password

This time, it generated the memorable password, but when I clicked on the controller, it changed to a different kind.

      Safari: 18.2

Thank you for those detailed reproduction steps. I see the same behavior on my end and I've filed an issue with our development team so that they can investigate further. Thank you for reporting the issue!
