Can't get 1password to work on Android

After MS Edge just deleted all my saved passwords, I decided to go to a third party password manager (note, this is a work computer and the organization does not allow Edge to be linked to a MS account, and they don't allow the use of Chrome, which would have allowed me to link my passwords to Google, so my passwords are completely lost)

However, I can't seem to get 1password to work (edit, just got desktop working, but not Android), and I am an engineer and know my way around computers.

I signed up for 1password, and uploaded the passwords that I do have.  I didn't lose 100% of my passwords since I have some stored on my google account (I have an Android phone).  I uploaded those to 1password once I signed up (another reason I wanted a password manager is that I didn't want two separate password storage locations - Edge and google.  Want to consolidate to one).

I got it finally to work on a browser as shown on this help page: https://support.1password.com/windows-auto-type/ (I had missed the part about CTRL-shift-Spacebar.)

However, for my android phone, I have followed all the instructions at https://support.1password.com/android-autofill/ https://support.1password.com/disable-browser-password-manager/?android and every other setting page I can find on 1password.com and I can't seem to get 1password to enter a username/password on browser sites or apps.  I am 100% sure I have the settings (autofill and otherwise) set correctly in the 1password app, in Android settings, and in Chrome (the browser I use on Android).  I didn't get desktop to use until I saw the CTRL-shift-Spacebar instructions, but there is no such analog that I can find on Android.  Chrome just pulls passwords from my chrome/android/google stored password list, not 1password.

I have read through these support posts and none of them offer any solutions I haven't already tried.

My phone is a Samsung Galaxy running Android 12

I'll keep reading prior posts.  But any suggestions are welcome.

Welcome to the 1Password community! Can you try the suggestion that I posted here.

If that doesn't work then can you tell me which version of Chrome that you're using? And does filling work in other browsers like Edge or Firefox for you? Or is it not working anywhere?

It does not work. It works in Firefox and every other app on my phone.

The chrome version is Chrome 136.0.7103.87.  On a galaxy s24 ultra with the newest software update.

I'm sorry that you're running into issues with autofill on Android. I know that you've tried some of the suggestions in the articles that you posted, can you try these steps one more time:

    1. Unlock the 1Password for Android app.
    2. Tap the picture of your account or collection at the top right and choose Settings > Autofill.
    3. Confirm that all autofill settings are enabled.
    4. Fully quit Chrome and then re-open it.

If that still doesn't work then can you tell me which version of Chrome is installed on your Android device and which Android device you're using?

Thanks Dave.  Have tried all of these.  The problem is just with Chrome (thread title is misleading).  The chrome version is 136.0.7103.87

I have since switched to Edge as my default Android browser as that seems to work with no problem.  But would love to get 1password working with Chrome on Android.

Thank you for confirming the version of Chrome that you're using. Can you try these additional steps:

        1. Tap the Chrome menu  and choose Settings.
        2. Tap Autofill services, then choose Autofill using another service and tap Restart Chrome.

        Does that get things working?

With the keyboard I use on my Android device when browsing, the 1Password autofill suggestions appear in a bar above the keys where spelling suggestions and other controls often appear. For a long time I didn't notice this. This is further complicated by the suggestions not appearing for some sites when using my primary browser, such as my.1password.com.

While there are obvious several differences between our tech, this might provide a clue to help.

  • Here are two screenshots showing trying to log into an app and a webpage (on chrome).  In each case, the screenshot is after I tapped on the e-mail field (which in both cases is the username for these logins).  I would note that I use MS Swiftkey as my keyboard.  Don't know if that makes a difference.  In both cases, I have passwords that I have uploaded to 1password and have confirmed they are there.

While I don't have a Buffalo News account, when I visit the login page in a Chrome Incognito tab with the 1Password app unlocked or locked, the bar appears with its best suggestion for autofilling alongside "🔍 Open 1Password" under the Chrome suggestion bar.

My keyboard hides when I take screen shots.

Thanks for taking the time to respond.  What you describe is the behavior I am looking for, but just can't seem to get.  I switched back to the default Samsung keyboard to check if that was the problem, but it made no difference.  I can't figure out what is going on.  I could paste screenshots of all the autofill slider positions (in chrome, android, and 1password settings) but I am 100% sure I have them set as described in the instructions.
