How do backups work?
Hello,
First, apologies for all the threads I've been making. I just started using 1Password 8 and have questions. :-)
How do backups work in 1Password 8? I know you can export as 1PUX and CSV files that are unencrypted, but does 1Password do encrypted backups like 1Password 6 did? I read this support article and it says everything in our 1Password account is backed up everyday. However I don't see anything related to backups in my account settings (both the Mac app and website versions).
Can you please clarify how backups work?
Thank you!

Hello ScarySulley! 👋
Thanks for the question! When using 1Password 8, there is no need to backup your vault since your data is already backed up to your 1Password account in the cloud. If you accidentally delete an item you can always restore it from your 1Password account on 1Password.com: View and restore previous versions of items
If you're worried about losing access to your 1Password account then downloading and saving your Emergency Kit would be the best option. The Emergency Kit contains your Secret Key and you'll just need to remember your account password (or write it down on the Emergency Kit) to restore access to your account. You can also save a recovery code.
I hope that helps.-Dave

So our 1Password accounts are the backups. I'm assuming it's not possible to download or export an encrypted backup (besides the unencrypted 1PUX and CSV files)? I'm just thinking if something happened to the 1Password servers.
Also thank you for the additional info you mentioned.

Thanks for the reply. Your encrypted data is replicated to redundant copies on our end to guard against any data loss. And, even if our servers were to go down, you would still have access to your passwords on your device if you've installed the app since it maintains an offline cache (with some exceptions for 1Password Business customers based on the configuration set by their admin).

There's no encrypted export option at the moment but I'll let the team know that you'd be interested in seeing this in the future. For now, the 1PUX export contains an encrypted and lossless copy of all of your items aside from passkeys.
