Link Fields from One Entry to Another Entry

So my current issue is that WGU's main student login to their student portal uses the "username" format, whereas the Microsoft 365 login requires the "username@my.wgu.edu" format, but BOTH use the exact same password that, when you update one, it auto-updates the other.

What would be the easiest means of solving the dilemma of logging in/keeping two entries in sync, password wise? Because the auto-login feature of 1Password makes this part difficult.

WGU's student portal doesn't allow for the extra "@my.wgu.edu" on the username, and Microsoft 365 does require it.

And, as I've already accomplished this feat... Remembering to update the password in two entries in 1Password is gonna be frustrating when I'm used to it automatically doing it all for me... Thanks ADHD brain!

Please let me know if I am phrasing this in an understandable way, as I'm working while typing this out right now.

MacOS 15.5 Beta (24F5068b) / 1Password for Mac 8.10.75 (81075001)

Thanks in advance, you guys are awesome!

Thanks for the feedback! There isn't a way to link fields together between different items, however I can see how that would be useful and I've filed a feature request on your behalf. While I can't make any promises, the team will consider developing such a feature in the future.

I'm facing the same dilemma. I have an AD account that uses two different usernames, but the same password, depending on the service. To keep the autofill working, I need to have two separate login entries but as jpartain89 said, this requires the password to be changed in multiple items. Another issue is that Watchtower flags these items as reused passwords, which is technically correct though. But yeah, some kind of a linking ability would be nice.

That just seems to be super tedous and unnecessary when having either "field linking" via the already-created "Secret Reference" linking system be a real "thing" inside of 1Password, or come up with a more complicated means of automatically knowing that "x website requires username x, and y website requires username y but both require password x".....

Isn't this literally the point of having an already well-developed and often-used "linking" system already in place???

    Just some ideas!!!

Love you guys, y'all are the best, Agile Bits fanboy for life....

  • Hello jpartain89! πŸ‘‹

Thanks for reaching out! The easiest and simplest option would be to have one Login item saved in 1Password with the following setup:

    1. Leave the default username field blank but enter your password into the default password field.
    2. Add 2 different website addresses: your student portal and your Microsoft login page.
    3. Add two custom fields for your usernames, one for your Microsoft username and one for your student portal username: Customize your 1Password items
    4. Turn off autosubmit for the item:
      1. Open your browser.
      2. Click on the 1Password icon in your browser's toolbar.
      3. Select the Login item in question, then click on the three dots in the upper right corner of the item. Click "Don't sign in automatically".

Then, when you're signing in, you can have 1Password fill your password and then you can open the 1Password pop-up from the toolbar and drag and drop the appropriate username for each website.

Let me know if you run into any issues.
