Manual masked email (again)
The 1Password extension has a history of failing to prompt users to create masked emails. A quick search of this community revealed comments on the issue going back several years. Most appear to end with a feature request being made on behalf of the user.
Today it was the Framework laptop checkout flow on an iOS device.
https://frame.work/checkout/contact
Apple’s built in password manager interface, on the keyboard, displays a convenient “Hide My Email” button but the 1Password extension shows nothing in the email field. If I switch to the password field, and then select the iOS keyboard “Passwords” option, 1Password (my default password app) opens with a convenient option to “Create a new item”. Alas, at no point during the process of creating a new item is it possible to create a new masked email.
After several years, is there a reason why this feature has never been developed? Is there a contractual reason in the deal with Fastmail that prevents this? I fail to grasp why it’s okay to give a manual flow for a user to create a new item, but it’s not okay to create a manual flow to create a masked email.
This is a recurring pain point with 1Password and a straight forward response on whether this will ever be addressed would be very welcomed.
Regards,
Greg

I will take part in this, if you don't mind. (the forwarding of pages that don't work with triggering masked password suggestions.)
I have found the failure of this feature rather irritating, because there's a big gap between the functionality I've experienced and the shiny marketing page here:
https://1password.com/fastmail/
that says:Easily create email addresses on the fly
Create a new masked email address without ever leaving the sign-up page. Now, keeping your email anonymous is as easy as generating a strong password.
This was a MASSIVE part of why I chose to part with my money for an annual subscription, and it frequently doesn't work. Also, when it does work, I still have to go to Fastmail and browse to the Masked Emails section to add a note to the newly created masked email about what it's for.
...The marketing claim is probably technically correct though, as it says "as easy as generating a strong password" - which is next to impossible on my Android device, the only way to do that with 1Password is via creating a new login item, then copying the password, and deleting the login item. But that's a whole different kettle of annoyance...

Hello Ancillas! 👋
I'm sorry that 1Password didn't suggest a masked email on Framework's checkout page. 1Password in the browser uses a filling brain to identify email address fields where a masked email address should be suggested. Sometimes the filling brain doesn't get things right and we need to create a specific filling recipe for that site.
Could you please send the page structure of the webpage in question to our support team so that we can take a look? Follow these steps:
- Open the website in question until you can see the field that you're referring to.
- Right-click on the page and click "1Password - Password Manager" > Help > Collect Page Structure.
Attach the resulting JSON file to an email message addressed to support@1Password.comWith your email please include:
- A link to this thread:

- Please do not post the file here on the forum.
You should receive an automated reply from our BitBot assistant with a Support ID number. Please post that number here. After several years, is there a reason why this feature has never been developed?
Being able to create a masked email address manually is something that has been requested before but the feature hasn't bubbled up yet on our roadmap. I've let our Product team know that you'd like the ability to create masked email aliases manually as well.

Thanks Dave. I appreciate it. I just sent an email with the requested information.
I know you all are very busy as you expand the business, and there's never enough time to do everything. I'm happy to continue submitting page structures for pages that aren't properly detected by 1Password, but I'd also gladly enable data sharing with 1Password if I had a flow to manually create a masked email that also captured the page structure and sent it along to your team for a better pipeline of sites that are problematic. Maybe a stream of data like that would change the perceived value of working on the feature?
Thanks for your time,
Greg

Is this something that has an explanation, even if that explanation is that it's a feature that has never been prioritized?
