I wanted to test out the desktop application provided by Fastmail for macOS.  It of course requires me to log in and I have been using passkeys to login to Fastmail.  Of course 1Password doesn't recognize the app application so macOS tells me I have no passkeys saved for this account and asks me to use a QR code or use a security key.  

I have configured macOS settings in a manner I think 1Password recommends (see screenshot) to support passkeys.  The exception is "Set Up Codes" where my only option is the macOS Passwords app.  Not sure what this last option is really doing, still waiting for Apple to document it better.

What am I missing (if anything)? Using passcodes stored in 1Password when logging into apps simply doesn't seem to work on macOS, and I have had similar issues on iOS.  Must I stop using passkeys for these sites or have a password+2FA and a passkey so I can select one or the other?  I do not want to leave 1Password for Apple's app.

      I just read the post Native Password AutoFill Extension macOS.  The post by 1P_Dave 1 month ago seems like something I will look into.  The older posts of that topic (ranging back several years) seem to contribute a whole bunch of noise so I have some reading to do before I jump in.

      Thanks for getting me pointed at possible solutions!

      I did install the nightly update as recommended by 1P_Dave​ .  I see no real difference in the 1Password settings that I need to enable to use the "Native Autofill" so I am guessing I do have it enabled.  The discussions I've read in the community seem to avoid the topic of using 1Password to log into 3rd party apps using passkeys.

        I'm sorry for the confusion. I merged your thread into our existing thread for macOS AutoFill, that's the feature that allows password managers to sign into non-browser macOS apps using passkeys.

        This feature isn’t yet supported in the production version of 1Password for Mac, which is why you’re prompted to either scan a QR code or use a security key. You can select “Scan QR Code” and use your mobile device’s camera to sign in with 1Password on your phone. Alternatively, you can sign in to Fastmail using another method, like your password.

        We're currently testing support for macOS AutoFill in the latest beta and nightly versions of 1Password. This will allow you to sign in to non-browser desktop apps using a passkey saved in 1Password on your Mac. After updating to the beta/nightly, lock and unlock 1Password manually and then follow these steps: 

        1. Open and unlock 1Password for Mac.
        2. Click on 1Password next to the  in the menu bar.
        3. Click Settings, then click AutoFill.
        4. Click Set up macOS AutoFill. 



        Note: this feature is currently being tested and you might run into bugs. If you do run into issues then let us know!
