Passkey flow broken on Android
Hello,
I own an iPhone 14 pro max as well as a Galaxy S25 ultra, both running the latest OS updates available.
The issue I have is that Passkey on my new Android phone is never working, with any app while it was working perfectly while I was using iOS.
Check the two youtube videos below:
As you can see there is no way for me to use 1Password passkeys.
See the screen below:
Any idea how to make this work? I checked everything in my Android settings to make sure 1Password is used solely as a password manager.
And it's not just the Kraken app, I wasn't able to use passkey on any Android app that supports it.
Thanks!
Hello, Ekami67. Thank you for reaching out. I'm sorry about the problem you encountered with 1Password on your Samsung.
I've done some testing on my end and have been able to recreate the passkey issue on my Android device using the Kraken app. I've filed an issue for our development team for further investigation.
Can you please share additional details on which other apps on your device are encountering the same behaviour? Additionally, are you experiencing any issues with Autofill?

I had the same issue on a Pixel 7a. I couldn't use 1password passkeys with any app or browser. It always defaulted to looking for the passkey under the google password manager. I appear to have fixed it when I uninstalled the 1password app and reinstalled it and then re-registered it as the preferred service for autofill under "Passwords, passkeys, & accounts". Just re-registering it alone without uninstalling the app was not sufficient.

Thanks I'll try that :)

Correction, after reinstalling 1password only works in firefox for me. Every other browser and the system level google account still tries google password manager and won't let me use anything else. I've tried many things to try and get it to work.
At this point it seems I am just forced to use google password manager no matter what. I can create a 1password passkey as a backup I guess, but it won't help me login on my phone for most apps.

I only get the Google passkey option on my Pixel 9 when signing into an app. I think better instructions are needed.

The issue was with all apps and websites, but I believe I resolved it. When selecting the passkey option for a site (e.g. Github), the Android popup defaulted to the Google Passkey service.
I noticed there was a small option at the bottom to configure your default passkey service. 1password was already selected for me, but I removed and readded it.
Now, choosing a passkey for every app opens 1Password instead of Google. I am not sure if the exact steps I went through were required, but it did appear to be an Android issue.
Thanks!
