Password Generator

Is there a way to access the password generator from a menu within 1Password?

  • I get to the password generator in the menu in the Safari extension

    Menu Button

  • Mostly because it doesn't always work depending on the website. It's very easy WHEN it works, in a website which is prompting 1Password to clearly generate a new password, but not when it doesn't. As you have clearly not had a chance to try a different experience with LastPass (which I'm happily moved away from but still it had its advantages) in-field password generator right click perhaps you are not in a position to say that it's not easier! It has been a constant, if minor, frustration and I seem not to be the  only person that has experienced it.

  • Doesn't help - I know how to do it in the extension or in the app, my point is that it should be in the password field box with the other 1Password options. With LastPass, that right-click in the box where you NEED the password gave you a password generator option, which would then get saved in your Vault. My point is not that there are not options to generate a password, it's that it's better for it to be in the right place.

Thanks for the reply. Did you see my post here? You can find the password generator right on the page here:

If you're already aware of this option then is there a reason why you'd like to see it also added to the right-click menu? I'd love to know more about your use case.

  • I couldn't agree more - in LastPass there was an option within the password field to right-click and generate a new password - not go up and out of the box into the extension, generate one there and hope that it filled correctly in the box. It's a whole bunch of extra steps that seem unnecessary - particularly as there is a right-click menu option for 1Password already that weirdly doesn't include password generator

What about if you are need to generate a password for an application like Quicken? In this mode, the browser may not be open but the small app window is. I know, I can just open the browser. But this will entail extra steps I'd prefer to avoid.

You can generate a password in the app. I often use if I’m doing something without the browser.
