Pin to Screen

I am writing to express my disappointment regarding the omission of the "Pin to Screen" feature in the new Safari Extension, following my recent upgrade to 1Password 8. As a frequent user who relies heavily on this functionality, I can attest to its significant impact on my daily operations, especially when dealing with routine tasks such as managing various bank accounts.

The "Pin to Screen" feature was instrumental in helping me efficiently navigate the cumbersome process of manually reconfirming account numbers with different banks. With this feature, I was able to keep essential information effortlessly visible on my screen and seamlessly switch between tasks without the need to repeatedly toggle back and forth between applications. This not only saved time but also enhanced accuracy by reducing the chance of errors that can easily occur when copying sensitive information.

Losing this capability has created an unexpected hurdle, and its absence is felt acutely in my workflow. The convenience and efficiency it offered are greatly missed. I sincerely urge your team to consider reinstating this feature in the Safari Extension as soon as possible, as it provides significant value to users like myself who manage sensitive tasks that require frequent, precise data validation.

I appreciate the continuous improvements your team brings to 1Password, and I am hopeful that this much-appreciated feature can be reintroduced in future updates. Thank you for considering this request.

Can you clarify what you mean by switching tabs? When you press Command-O (the letter O not the number zero), Quick Access will open the item in a new window on top every other window that you have open, it won't open a new tab:

Dave, thanks, this works as a solution. Thank you again.

Do you think we can trigger quick access from Safari Extension?

Thanks for the question. You can't open Quick Access from 1Password in Safari, instead you can use one of the following methods:

      1. Press Shift-Command-Spacebar on your keyboard.
      2. Right-click on the 1Password icon in the menu bar in the top-right corner of your screen and then click Open Quick Access.

      I hope that helps.

Thanks, Dave. Doesn't that imply I'm switching tabs?

Pin to Screen on 1P7 didn't require me to switch tabs; I could stay on the same tab or switch, and my password would remain on screen forever until I cancelled it. That's such an ideal and amazing solution.

  • Hi,

It sounds as if you're looking for the open in a window option. Right-click on the item and select open in a new window.

A bit like window in a window.

This feature was available as 'Pin to Screen' in 1Password 7 Safari Extension, but it's been removed with 1Password 8 and its new Safari Extension; I don't know why.

Basically, I want to pin the window on to the browser so even if I change the tabs or refresh or submit the password window is pinned and I can access it easily.

Thanks for the reply! You can open an item in a new window by using 1Password 8's Quick Access:

        1. Press Shift-Command-Spacebar to open Quick Access: Get to know Quick Access
        2. Search for the item that you'd like to open.
        3. Press CMD+O to open the item in a new window.

Let me know if you run into any issues.
