Safari extension stops unlocking and filling [See pinned response]

Every day the safari plug in fails to work until I restart Safari. Any idea why?
I'm talking about autofill in login boxes.
When I click on the 1p icon in the menu bar it spins for a while, then shows the correct item, but the autofill button does nothing. Then when I restart safari, the autofill suggestion is now there, but invariably there will be an error the first time I submit until I reload the page. The last time this happened was when attempting to login here to post this.

This is new behavior since the last set of updates.

Are you aware of any issues?

MacOS 15.4
Safari Version 18.4 (20621.1.15.11.10
1Password for Safari 8.10.70.27
1Password for Mac 8.10.50 (81050025)

  • Hello folks,

We’re sorry about the issues that you’ve reported when using 1Password in Safari. We’re happy to share that the latest update to macOS and iOS includes improvements to Safari that resolve a bug where 1Password's suggestion menu would stop working and autofill will stop filling in certain situations.

We also recommend taking the time to make sure that you’re using the latest version of 1Password for Safari.

Thank you for your patience as we worked with our partners at Apple to resolve the issue. If you're still seeing the issue then please send an email to support@1Password.com so that the team can help further. Since the original issue reported in this thread has been resolved I'll close this thread.

  • Weeks later and this issue persists. Meanwhile I get a renewal notice today. Is this actually going to be fixed? 1Password is not worth the price for Safari users in it’s current state.

Welcome to the community! The issue remains open with our development team and I'll note that you're running into it as well. I'm sorry for the disruption. For the time being, opening the website in a new tab should get things working again. If that doesn't work then restart Safari by completely closing it and then reopening it.

You can also fill in Safari using the desktop app's Universal Autofill feature: Use Universal Autofill in apps and browsers on your Mac

I would say that it is gutsy to state that this issue is "solved" when you still are working on the problem. My experience is that opening a new tab doesn't work at all. Maybe restarting Safari would solve the problem but doing that a few times per day is not acceptable!

  • Hello dmkahn, JerrySG, theseal, ahenshaw! 👋

I'm sorry that autoFill stops responding in Safari on your Mac. This is an issue that the team and I have been able to reproduce and an internal issue is currently open to investigate this further. The team has identified an issue in Safari 18.4, that also exists in Safari 18.5, that is contributing to the issue and have filed feedback with Apple to get this fixed.

For the time being, opening the website in a new tab should get things working again. If that doesn't work then restart Safari by completely closing it and then reopening it.

I'm sorry for the impact that the issue is causing. Apple is currently testing a fix for the issue in the latest versions of Safari Technology Preview and we're hopefully that a fix will be released for the stable version of Safari soon.

For the time being, opening the website in a new tab should get things working again. If that doesn't work then restart Safari by completely closing it and then reopening it.

You're correct that you're running into a known issue, please see my post here.

That still leaves the OTPs sent in mail messages issue open. Don't know if that's a 1p or a mac issue.

That's a macOS feature and 1Password isn't involved. I recommend reaching out to Apple for help if you're not seeing one-time passwords being picked up from emails by macOS.

There as an update available today

    1Password for Mac 8.10.70 (81070026)

Not sure if this will help the safari extension or not. FWIW I have not seen the issue (yet) today.

I've searched and searched, and have yet to find a way to contact support and open a ticket. Am I being an idiot here? I'm getting more and more disappointed in 1Password. May be time to find another password manager.

Edit: Found their support email and sent in a report.

    Same issue here!

Problem also appeared last summer. Back then I contacted the support which told me that the devs were working tightly with Apple to get the problem fixed. Even got a fairly big discount/refund. Might be time for another support ticket.

1Password which should be best in class is practically unusable at the moment.

I am having a similar issue. I use multiple profiles within Safari and notice sometimes it prompts me to `reload 1password` when using the extension. I use the extension in combination with the MacOS Desktop application too.

Sometimes one profile in Safari will work fine, and another profile will require several `reloads` before it will work.

Occasionally I have to go in to the 1Password Desktop application `settings`, and disable the `browser` integration, and then reenable it for everything to work correctly.

I have exactly the same issue. I think it started with the MacOS version 15.4

    MacOS settings:

    Autofill passwords and passkeys: On
    Autofill from Passwords: Off
Verification Codes: Delete after use: On (I also noticed it stopped picking up verification codes from mail messages)
Setup Codes in: Passwords (the only choice)
