The new search function makes it worse

With the new search function, the program becomes much more difficult to use. And using additional keyboard shortcuts to open a real search function is 1. not intuitive and 2. requires additional effort that is absolutely not necessary.

Please make sure that there is a setting where you can define the old search function as default again.

I just upgraded to version 8 from 7 on Windows and the new UI is horrible along with the search feature. I plan on downgrading back to 7 which has a usable search. The application looks cartoonish and the search feature is unusable.

    Hi skatch and dserodio:

Thanks for your feedback here. While this is the first release of 1Password 8 for Mac, it isn't the last, so we're taking feedback like yours into consideration as we work to make 1Password 8 even better.

I miss live filtering too, and substring matching is a must. I just rolled back to v7 because of this, Universal Autofill is not worth the currently missing features in v8

Update: on second thought, forget what I said about live-filtering. There are lots of ways to solve this problem besides live filtering, and I realized after posting that I was just arguing for what I'm used to from previous versions. Let me try to be more useful and describe what, specifically, I find worse about the current search feature in v8.

The main issue I have is that the results dropdown is an intermediary bit of UI that gets between me and the items I want to see. It doesn't provide enough info, and dropdowns are fragile—if I select the wrong item I have to open & navigate the dropdown again to see a different search result. I miss being able to view item details directly.

I gather from @danvpeterson's twitter posts that the previous search UI was confusing for some, and also the new search opens up the ability to jump to categories and such. Fair enough. I hope the UI can get back to being as detailed & quick to navigate as the old one was when it comes to searching for items, as that's how I interact with 1Password 90% of the time.

Adding a vote to this thread. The new search results dropdown gets in the way of what I want, which is just to live-filter the list I'm currently viewing.

Hi folks, thanks for sharing this feedback. The search feature is an area of ongoing work for us, and we appreciate having your perspective on how we're doing and what you'd like to change.

I have an open feature request with our developers for the desired app behavior you've described, and so have added a vote on your respective behalfs (behalfs? is that a word? It is).

Thanks again for your input on this, and I hope that updates to come will delight you. 🙏

Agreed! Came here to see if this feedback had been shared. I don't see the value in what it does now. It appears to try and guess the exact one result. Only by hitting Command-Enter can you get a true search. Please set the full search to the default and make this other feature an option.
