Solved

Touch ID sensor is currently unavailable

I'm having the same issue. Updating to MAC OS Tahoe 26.1 may have caused it. IOS 26 no issues.

Futhermore, if I disable the new option (unlock with device), 1password behaves normally as it should

    1. after seeing the message, no more errors and I am able to use Touch ID
    2. The issue only occurs after cold boot. No issue with sleep or log out/log in

    Thanks.

    Hi 1P_Dave,

since last update and the new security options, the "touch ID sensor is currently unavailable" after each restart on macOS 26.1

This is the first time I noticed something like that.

Touch ID has no issue to unlock the mac or anything.

    macOS 26.1

    Thanks

I'm sorry that you're running into issues when trying to unlock 1Password using Touch ID. So that I can better understand the situation can you tell me the following:

      1. After seeing the message, if you lock and unlock 1Password using your account password then are you able to use Touch ID to unlock 1Password on subsequent attempts?
      2. Does the issue only occur after restarting your Mac? Or does it also occur when your Mac goes to sleep? Or when you log out and log back in to your Mac?

I look forward to hearing from you.

  • Hello Stilt! 👋

I'm sorry that you're running into issues when using Touch ID to unlock 1Password on your Mac. I've split your post into a new thread since the other thread is quite old at this point.

Can you tell me a little more about the issue:

    1. What is the specific error message that you're seeing?
    2. Can you successfully use Touch ID to unlock the Mac itself?
    3. What version of the 1Password desktop app are you using: Find the version numbers for 1Password and your operating system

I look forward to hearing from you.
