Unable to authenticate using a security key on 1Password for Windows

Hello everyone!

2yrs later, I got this same problem, but on windows 11.

Yesterday 1password asked me to enter 2FA. And whatever I do, It is stuck on this window!

I can normally log-in to browser and phone app.

I have tried to logout, erase aplpication, reinstall aplication... but nothing helps!

My setup: Windows 11 and 4x YubiKey 5 NFC. Application installed from windows store.

  • Hello folks,

Further investigation revealed an issue where security keys may not work with the 1Password for Windows desktop app if you accidentally dismissed, or chose "No" on a prompt that shows up the first time that you try to use a security key with 1Password for Windows:

An internal work item has been opened to see if this flow can be better designed. In the meantime, to get things working again, follow these steps:

    1. Open the Windows Settings app.
    2. Click on Privacy & security.
    3. Scroll down and click on Passkeys.
    4. Make sure that Passkey access is turned on.
    5. Expand the Let apps create and use passkeys section.
    6. Expand the 1Password entry here and turn any 1Password domain listed underneath the 1Password app.
    7. Select the security key option in the “Choose a passkey” modal that appears.

Then, close 1Password and re-open and try to authenticate using your security key again.

I'm sorry that you're unable to authenticate 1Password for Windows using your security key. Can you test to see if you're still able to sign into 1Password.com using the security key using a Private/Incognito window in your browser?

I'd like to know if the issue only affects the 1Password desktop app or if it affects 1Password.com in your browser.

I'm sorry that you're both unable to use your security key with the 1Password for Windows desktop app. So that I can investigate further, I'd like to ask you to create and share a 1Password diagnostics report from your Windows PC:

        Send a diagnostics report (Windows)

Attach the diagnostics to an email message addressed to support@1password.com

        With your email please include:
