Feature Request: Warn or Postpone Upcoming Master Password Reauthentication
I'm not quite sure if that was discussed before as i couldn't find that particular issue. The periodic reauthentication with the Master Password is a good and necessary feature — especially in professional or company environments where security must remain strict.
However, it would be very helpful if the app could:
- Notify the user shortly before a reauthentication is required, and
- Allow postponing it, e.g. options like “Remind me in 10 minutes,” “in 1 hour,” or “in 1 day”
This would make it easier to avoid being forced to type the password in stressful or inappropriate situations (e.g. when others are around or when in a hurry). This request is specifically about the Master Password reauthentication, not regular unlocks using Face ID or Touch ID.
Hello dima! 👋
Thank you for the suggestion! I can see how it would be helpful to be able to "snooze" the account password confirmation if you're not able to type in your account password right at that moment. While I can't make any promises, I've filed a feature request with our Product team to consider adding such as feature.
Thank you for helping us make 1Password better!

I definitely support this suggestion! I would just like to add my two cents on this. I understand there could be security concerns from the product team around snoozing a master password re-entry prompt. An alternative that would work for me is the ability to set snoozable "early password prompts" starting N days before the actual expiration. For example, if I have my master password re-entry set to every 14 days with early prompts starting 2 days from that, 1Password would begin to prompt me for my master password at the 12 day mark. If I'm on a crowded train, I could snooze it until later that evening when I'm back at my house. But you'd still have that same maximum 14 day mark where you're forced to re-enter your master password, just like how it is now.

The requirement to enter your account password is primarily meant to be a memory tool to help you remember your account password by requiring that you occasionally retrieve it from your memory and type it in. You can set the requirement to a longer time period or turn it off entirely (if you're using biometric unlock).
That being said, thanks for the suggestion regarding a snooze feature! I'll pass it along to the team internally.

Thanks for the ping. You wrote:
this would also help us out with colleagues needing to work offline (through biometric authentication) to know 'when time runs out'
Can you tell me a little more about this? Are you using SSO to unlock 1Password? I'd like to better understand how this kind of feature would help your team work offline.
