I have my secret key and I have my recovery key (which I didn't know was a thoing until I went to ensure I jad my recovery kit and secret key.
Please clear up the diff btwn and uses of the secret key vs. recovery key. Also please let me know the steps to reset a password if it just won't work but I have my key and code.
Thank you!

You gave an answer for adding 1PW to new acct. My question was asking about "my password doesn't work." Good to know secret key helps add to new machine, thanx.
My primary question: "My password is not working. I have recovery key and secret key. How do I get going again."

I'm sorry that I wasn't clear. If you've lost or forgotten your account password and you have a recovery code then you can recover access to your account using the steps in this guide: Recover your account - Recovery codes
Once you go through the recovery process you'll choose a new account password and receive a new Secret Key.

Thanks for the answer. I have downloaded the Emergency Kit and my Recovery code and password protected the pdf.
If the recovery code is whats needed to reset a password, what is the Secret Key for?
If my vault and 1PW acct login are same and I couldn't get in (assume I messed up a recently changed password). What steps are taken so 1PW will let me into my acct/vault?

I'll reply below:

You need both your account password and your Secret Key to add your 1Password account to a new device or browser. Once the account is added, you'll unlock 1Password on that device using your account password. The Secret Key isn't used for recovery, it's a key piece of information needed to access your 1Password account. This of it as a second password that is saved locally to your device the first time that you sign into 1Password on that device.

If you've forgotten/lost either your account password or Secret Key then you'll need to recover your account either by using a recovery key or asking a family organizer to help.

Hello shipdriver! 👋
Thanks for the question! 1Password doesn't have a "password reset" option similar to other websites but there are several ways to ensure that you can recover access to your account if you lose your Secret Key or account password. Your Secret Key and account password are two secrets, that only you know, that allow you to access and decrypt the items in your 1Password account. You should memorize your account password and I recommend that you download and save your Emergency Kit so that you have a copy of your Secret Key.
Do the following to protect yourself in case you lose your account password or Secret Key:
- Generate a recovery code: A recovery code will help you recover access to your account so that you can create a new account password and Secret Key.
- Add additional family organizers to your account: If you're using 1Password Families, you can add additional family organizers who can help you recover your account if needed.
When using either of these account recovery methods, you'll need to confirm the recovery using the email address associated with your account so make sure you don't lose access to that.Let me know if you have any questions.
