1Password Firefox extension used to work fine, now does nothing
For approximately a week (about the last update), the 1Password Firefox extension does nothing.
No prompts to fill username or password, and clicking on the 1Password icon in the browser bar seems to have no response. Disabling the extension and enabling it has no change. Same with uninstalling and re-installing.
Please fix this.
There are multiple similar reports on the Mozilla Addon website for the 1Password extension.

Hello everyone,
The latest beta version of 1Password for Firefox fixes an issue where the 1Password browser extension could become unresponsive in Firefox and cause abnormally high CPU usage. If you'd like to get your hands on the fix then you can update to 8.11.4-26 or later: Use 1Password beta releases
The team is working on releasing the fix to the stable version of 1Password for Firefox as soon as possible. If you'd like to stick with the stable version for now, the following should help workaround the issue until the next time that you close your browser:
- Disable 1Password in Firefox: Disable or remove Add-ons
- Open Task Manager (on Windows) or Activity Monitor (on Mac) and force quit the Firefox process. Don't close Firefox normally, the process has to be closed.
- Re-open Firefox.
- Enable 1Password in Firefox.
I'm sorry for the disruption caused by the issue.-Dave

Is the beta release safe to use now or should we wait until it has been fully tested?

Thanks for the question! The beta version is safe to use and has been tested but you might run into more bugs with the beta version than with the stable version.
If you'd like to wait for the fix to land in the stable version then that's completely fine, we hope to release the fix as soon as possible.

For those monitoring this thread, extension version 8.11.2.21 is now out. Not saying this will fix things, but the new version might be something to try if you're still running into this issue.

Hello everyone,
We're aware of reports from some customers that 1Password in Firefox can become unresponsive or use excessive CPU in certain cases. Our development team is currently investigating and I want to thank everyone who has sent in information so far.
For the time being, the following should help workaround the issue until the next time that you close your browser:
- Disable 1Password in Firefox: Disable or remove Add-ons
- Open Task Manager (on Windows) or Activity Monitor (on Mac) and force quit the Firefox process. Don't close Firefox normally, the process has to be closed.
- Re-open Firefox.
- Enable 1Password in Firefox.
We've also confirmed that creating a new Firefox profile appears to get things working in the new profile as well. I'll update this thread as soon as I have more information to share.-Dave

Just searched for others, found this post. Happening here also, about a week now.

1password firefox extension Version 8.11.0.29 Last Updated July 18, 2025
1password desktop software on Win10 Pro Version 8.11.2
Desktop software works fine, never issues. Firefox extension every couple days, first thing in the morning it seems i go to click the extension icon pinned, and clicking just does nothing. My two other installed extensions is Adblock Plus and FoxClocks. No issues with either of them.
Issue matches up pretty well with the Last Update to the extension. - andcapNew Contributor
Can anyone confirm if disabling Adblock plus makes any difference.
I have the same firefox+1pass extension+desktop 1pass on 3 different windows pcs. I disabled Adblock on one machine that was experiencing this issue and that seemed to fix it. My other pc seems to run fine while adblock is still enabled. Not the most conclusive solution but just wondering if anyone else has the same experience.

I dont use Adblock, so...

I am not running an Adblock extension so it seems that is not the only issue.

I also noticed that my FireFox is not totally closing when I exit. I wonder if that is another symptom. See this page: Re: 1Password extension blocking all pages in Firefox | 1Password Community. Also, is anyone else seeing that the 1password icon does not have the black ring. See my earlier note with screenshot. When the black ring is missing, 1password does not work.

Hello cofiem, DuchVeliky, grimbuehler, GaryH, DoctorBrown, Calion, and egerlach! 👋
I'm sorry that you're running into issues with 1Password in Firefox. I haven't yet been able to reproduce the issue on my end and I'd like to gather some more information. Can you reply to this post with the following information so that I can try to reproduce your environment:
- What version of 1Password are you using?
- What version of Firefox are you using?
- Are you using a Mac, Windows PC, or Linux device?
- In Firefox, while the issue is happening, open the task manager by navigating to about:processes, what do you see for CPU usage for Extensions?
- Are other extensions also unresponsive? Or just 1Password?
I look forward to hearing from you.-Dave

Hi Dave, thanks for combining my post with this one.
it is not clear what is triggering the issue. All I know is that sometimes in the middle of doing random actions in the browser I go to a webpage to logon to a site and try to invoke the 1P extension and nothing happens. I check Firefox Task Mgr and Extensions have floored the CPU usage. I kill the task and restart all the 1P extension and all is normal. This will also happen if 1P is the only extension enabled.
Have others seen this behavior?
It would help if I had some way to gather a trace of when this happens. Or gather other data to help.

CPU usage is 100% for extensions. See screenshots.
Are other extensions also unresponsive? Or just 1Password?
I only have 1 extension installed - 1Password.

I have this problem too. It occurs on several different computers where we use 1Password. Initially, disabling and re-enabling the add-on helped, but then it stopped working. I tried deleting the add-on completely and reinstalling it, and it worked for a while, but then stopped again. The Windows application works fine, but there is a major problem in Firefox 140.0.4. It works in other browsers.
But it seems to me that other add-ons are also freezing. For example, I have vidIQ Vision, and I can't click on it, and I tried to install NordPass so that I would have its icon next to it, but I can't click on it either.
