Copying and Pasting Icons
I first commented on the subject of loosing the ability to copy and past icons in version 8, some four years ago. Since then I have mislaid my community login and password and so have reenrolled as a new user.
I administer a family account. We have collectively, 7 x MAC desktops, 2 x Windows desktops, 7 x iPhones, 8 x iPads. The ability to create entries in 1Password with identical icons is important to all users. For those, less technically confident, the icon provides a secure and confident way to recognise entries - many within a shared vault. Individuals, when automatically offered the upgrade in their 1password app, thought, as instructed by me over many years, to keep their apps up to date for security reasons. Having upgrade their iPhones, iPads etc to version 8, the very first calls and emails to me, concerned the loss of the ability to copy and paste icons. Many thought it was a misunderstanding of the new version 8 - it wasn't.
We still appear, not to have addressed this issue? As a consequence I had to uninstall everyones version 8 and reinstall versions 7. As I type this on a MAC desktop, I am the only user running version 8 on any device!! On my iPhone, I am running both versions, just so that I can utilise the 'copy and paste icon' facility.
Although you have provide in version 8 a 'dropdown' below the icon (in edit mode) providing 'choose a photo' and 'choose a file' - neither of these provide a suitable resolution to version 7 'copy paste'.
We use 1password in our family for everything, having spent years drumming into everyone the need to be secure and adhere to good password practices. I feel everyone is missing out on he update of version 8 JUST because of a 'copy and paste' issue.
Please can you address this ASAP ? I'm sure that many have similar views even though the numbers may not reveal themselves in your community forum - Out of our family, I am the only community user, but they all have the same issue - their may well represent many other users who do not visit the community forum.
Thank you

Hello sixtdb! 👋
Thanks for following up! The feature request is still open with our product team but it hasn't yet bubbled up as a feature to be built for 1Password 8. I'll let the team know that you'd still like to see it added to the current version of 1Password and I'll share the experience of you and your family.
Out of curiosity, how often do you and your family add custom icons to items in 1Password? Are you adding them to a specific type of item? When it comes to Login items, 1Password will provide a rich icon automatically for most websites.
As a consequence I had to uninstall everyones version 8 and reinstall versions 7.
I don't recommend that your family uses 1Password 7 anymore. 1Password 7 hasn't been updated for years and our team no longer tests it with current versions of iOS and macOS. Since 1Password stores the most important information in our lives, it's important to always use the latest version to remain protected.

Hello Dave,
Thank you for your contribution and comments. Your suggestion that 1Password should not be used anymore, is one that I concur with. The security of keeping software up to date and current is not lost on me - as outlined in my first contribution. My family members are adamant that the 'one' issue that they do not want to loose is the 'copy and paste' - to the point where some would rather not use 1Password altogether - silly, I know, but they have individually spent years learning how to use its functions and see upgrading to version 8 and 'loosing' an important (to them) functionality a backward step.
Within our family, we have adults that have learning disabilities. Interestingly although some, day to day challenges require help , their technology understanding is very good, making good use of computers, iPads, iPhones etc. In many ways their 'world' is much more accessible through technology than perhaps a face to face experience. Visual recognition plays an important role in being able to take part in , and recognise pathways forward. 1Password plays a very important role in providing them with a secure place that they have learnt to use when the real world feels less so. It has taken years for them to feel comfortable using it.
The role of icons in identifying 'things' is paramount to many with learning disabilities. In being able to setup entries on their behalf, with easily identifiable visual clues, allows them to feel comfortable and secure in using software. By collectively using a 'Shared Vault' , we are all able to manage the visual 'clues' to help not only those with difficulties but also ourselves! Rich icons, from my experience, do not always work. More importantly, as the end user, selecting your own icon to paste into the entry, provides a more meaningful visual clue. Many years ago I worked for the Virgin group. The group was/is, so large internationally that there were (at the time) over 150 different Virgin logo's, each subtly different for different sub companies. Choosing the wrong one for a marketing project or letterhead was not a sackable offence - but close!
The importance of icons (in my opinion) is often lost in development of software where it is perhaps seen only as a graphic, branding identity. To many users it is much more important. Being able to 'copy and paste' one's own 'identity' into a database entry....is to some, including those with disabilities, fundimental to their day to day life.
Please could we have 'cut and paste' back. We probably use it in version 7 at least 30 times a day in 'logins', 'banking' 'emails', 'memberships' to name but a few.
Thank you for your time.
