How to undo a deleted vault
Hi - I deleted a vault on my iPhone. It was partly intentional, but I expected some additional guidance (such as: "are you sure?" or "There is no way to undo this action" or "This will move this vault to the archive").
- Is there a way to undo/restore a deleted vault?
- Is a deleted vault deleted permanently?
- Why are there no additional warnings about deleting a vault?
- Why is there not an option to archive a vault?
- I deleted the vault primarily because I didn't want it to show up in search. Is there a way (on iPhone) to set a vault's items to not show up in search?
Is this a usability gap or am I missing something?
Wanted to close the loop….support helped me find the “accidentally deleted” vault. Seems like I encountered a quirky bug where it removed access rather than delete the vault. It was still there and I was able to add access for my account so everything restored properly. Thanks for all of the help!

Thanks for the reply. I haven't seen any other reports of this behaviour and I'd like to ask you to create a diagnostics report from your iOS device so that I can investigate this further:
Send a diagnostics report (iOS)
Attach the diagnostics to an email message addressed to support@1password.com
With your email please include:- A link to this thread: https://www.1password.community/discussions/1password/how-to-undo-a-deleted-vault/152660
- Your forum username: nedbrush
- The specific date and time when you deleted the vault.
You should receive an automated reply from our BitBot assistant with a Support ID number. Please post that number here. Thanks very much!Is there any way to recover the vault? I'm wondering if there's a chance it's in the 1password backup since the delete process didn't follow the expected process?
If you have 1Password installed on a desktop device that is currently offline, so that the vault deletion didn't sync to it yet, then you can keep that device offline and export the items to a CSV or 1PUX file (if the device is a phone or tablet then you'll need to manually re-create the items on another device): How to export your data from the 1Password desktop app
Alternatively, do you have a full disk backup of one of your devices where you're using 1Password? For example, a Time Machine backup of a Mac? It might be possible to restore the deleted vault from that full disk backup, let me know.

Hi Dave,
I sent an email to support@1password.com yesterday, but I never received a response from BitBot (checked my spam as well). I've attached a screenshot of the sent email from my gmail client.
Regards,

Hello nedbrush! 👋
Thank you for reaching out! When you delete a vault using the 1Password app, you'll see a warning telling you that vault deletion is permanent and you'll need to type in the vault's name to confirm that you want to permanently delete it before you're able to press the "Permanently Delete Vault" button:
As the warning says, deletion is permanent and there's no way to restore a deleted vault.
Is there a way (on iPhone) to set a vault's items to not show up in search?
While you can't archive an entire vault, you can archive individual items in a vault: Archive and delete items

(OMG - I like 1password, but this has been a frustrating experience (both the app deleting a vault unexpectedly but also submitting a response to this forum). As an aside to the main thread topic, I experienced a usability bug with this forum interface. I typed an entire response to this thread (took about 20 minutes), but before I clicked "Reply" to submit my post, I clicked the "x" next to "Marked as solution" in Dave's post. That caused my entire reply draft to be completely deleted! Well, that's not a good user experience! Why does marking it "not a solution" delete the unsubmitted reply draft?!?)
Hi Dave,
I believe I have experienced a critical bug in 1password because the vault was deleted without any confirmation. I am on iPhone 16 Pro. 1Password for iOS 8.10.64 (81064007, on PRODUCTION channel).
Here are my steps:
- (Note: This vault was quite old, probably over 8 years old. It is also rarely used. I would guess it had >300 items and hasn't had any items added in many years. In other words, I have used it as a read-only vault for many years.)
- I clicked the vault
- I clicked the upper-left dropdown (circle with 3 dots)
- I clicked "Delete Vault..." (I assumed since there were 3 dots that there would be further interaction before the delete happened)
- The vault was immediately deleted.
I tried this again with a new dummy vault and the deletion process worked as expected, as described by Dave. So, it seems this could be hard to reproduce. I can state with 100% confidence that I did not get a confirmation dialog and that my vault is gone.
Is there any way to recover the vault? I'm wondering if there's a chance it's in the 1password backup since the delete process didn't follow the expected process?
