I cannot figure it out and I've sent two different emails to support I answered the first time for several days So I sent the second one Finally I got one answer. they basically told me to read the instructions which is not working for me Please tell me what I'm doing wrong. I successfully set up a personal vault if I click on the + I get I get a lot of options none of which are files or anything to do with files. if I drag a file from Windows file explorer it ends up Windows File Explorer and lets me store it right back in a different place on my PC. Please, somebody tell me how I get my files from my windows machine into 1Passwords cloud? Can I do it from the extension? I've been logging ino the website. Hi shipdriver ! You should be able to add a document as a new entry into your vault. This should work in the browser extension. If you didn't integrate the extension with the 1Password desktop app, you should be switched to 1Password.com to add a new document. Doesn't it work for you in that way? If not, what exactly are you using? What browser, what extension or what desktop app. Or are you trying it on your mobile device? 🤔

I will play with it and see if I have it figured out. 👍 Is email support always so hit or miss on when they respond.? Yes I can now upload documents, yippee. Couple of questions; Can I make folders to keep the documents organized with the same vault? Or am I supposed to have multiple vaults for different type of files? I don't seem to be able to upload a folder. I have a folder with all my historical Quicken files. Any easy tips on how to get them all uploaded 'cause I'm not gonna do it 1 by 1 I just won't use the vault for that? if you highlight multiple files all at once and drag them over will it accept them? Thanks !

Can I make folders to keep the documents organized with the same vault? You could only use tags together with sub-tags (nested tags). Should look like folders in the list. https://support.1password.com/favorites-tags/ I don't seem to be able to upload a folder. Correct. You are only able to upload files. No folders.

shipdriver No need to maintain separate vaults for this, unless you have a good reason for it. 1Password no longer supports Folders. You can use https://support.1password.com/favorites-tags/ if you need an additional way to organize data. In the Desktop app, you have the ability to select the Documents type from the left sidebar (if you have enabled Settings > Appearance > Always Show in Sidebar > Categories). You cannot upload an entire folder of documents in one pass with 1Password 8. While Documents is the preferred category, entries can also have multiple Attachments. You sill have to attach these one at a time. I personally would not use 1Password for storing historical Quicken files (esp. if you've password protected these). But if you have to, you could archive them into a zip, and add that as a Document (or attachment).

Settings can be accessed in 1Password 8 for Windows by clicking the vertical ellipsis (⋮) above the left sidebar and selecting Settings or using the keyboard shortcut, (Ctrl + Comma (,)) > Appearance > Always Show in Sidebar > Categories. The item categories are also available by default by clicking Categories under the search bar:

This should help you identify all Document (or any other) item type in your vaults. I've included some other related links below:

I can't really understand question except to say that I feel my description is sufficient. Currently my documents are just listed in a big list. I want to separate them into what I call folders and I believe 1PW calls tags. My description of wasting an organization similar to how windows uses folders seems like a great way to describe what I want.

Summary
I really like 1 password as a password vault better than Last Pass (i'm referring to functionality only in this comment) that said 1PW is not up to speed on organizing and storing documents. I've used numerous apps fo that through the years. They all use a folder system to organize. 1 PW uses tags. I wanted to get rid of Nord Locker (redundant) but that app lets me uploads folders full of documents or individual documents which I can move to a desired folder. so that will remain my primary encrypted cloud document storage. and I use one password in a limited function this way since it's already open in my chrome I still put the documents in there as well but I don't put the majority of my storage in there I'd have to upload one file at a time and assuming I learned how to use tags then I'd have to assign tags to them it's just not workable for me.

Just like the Authenticator feature (mentioned in a different thread) it is not a feature I will use. with Lastpass the authenticator is a separate app so you can use it to gain access to your password manager. With 1PW I need a new authenticator which happens to be Google right now to use that feature to access 1PW. so then why the heck would I want to have a second authenticator that's 1PW? since I have to have Google authenticator(or another one) i'll just stop there and use that.

All that said I still think 1PW is a great password vault. it just falls short in the other things it tries to do compared to the competition.

From the Desktop or mobile apps, you can edit using the Add tag button. See my 1st screenshot above in the Jan 20 post, at the bottom of the image (that image is from the macOS desktop app). Or you can do this via 1Password.com (when you edit an item, there is a tags field).

Perhaps you can describe what you want to be able to do in terms of functionality, vs. describe a given mechanism for doing it (e.g. folders, tags, etc.). What ultimately do you need to be able to accomplish?

Even if I figure out how to do that seems like all my files will still be in a long list as well making the tags not so beneficial. Just wish we had folder organization as I do with my Nord File Locker.

So...if adding tags can eliminate my list and tidy everything up plz let me know. Thx !

I thought you were talking about attaching (uploading) files that resides in the file system of your computer to some item in 1Password, so it is stored securely in a 1Password vault. So I (as well as MrC before) tried to explain how to do this. It's similar in spirit how you attach a file to an email.
However, it seems you're talking about something different, so I recommend you contact 1Password support to work this out.

I'm confused, fair enough. i'm not sure what exactly you're teaching me to do. I believe you're teaching me 2 separate things. 1. how to add a category or something to a file 2. how to upload files. Is that correct?

I did what you said to see if I could group like files together. I choose edit then added a new field "Financial" I couldn't find it near the tags or see how it would help.

For your other help about uploading files. is the benefit you can upload multiple files at once? if so then that's worth looking into I guess rather than doing them one at a time the other way. But because there's no functionality for folders (as I've been told) i'm just sticking with the Nord Locker for keeping those financial files And that's no big deal It's FREE 'cause I don't have a lot of size.

You are confused, because 1Password is new for you. But actually it's very easy to attach files to any existing item, no matter the category.
Edit an item and choose to add another field. In the field options, choose to "Attach a file". A dialog will open to select any file on your computer to upload.
As alternative, you also can just drag any file from Windows Explorer into the 1Password app. It will create a new "Document" item that will contain that file as attach.

Your offer and your answer is very generous I thank you very much. That won't be necessary. I will keep a few important files in here just cause it's easy but I'll keep the bulk of them in Nord because they take folders and have the layout I'm used to like windows.

I believe your first diagram is what I did I was able to load some files in there I I just wasn't able to assign them a tag or a category or something like that But it's just not important really because I'm only going to keep a few files in there. If you described how to do that I apologize You're on a way higher sphere than me in technical expertise.

There are two ways to add files in the 1Password desktop app:

1) Create a new Document (a category) and add the file

2) Use any existing record and Attach a File (multiple files can be attached to a record, but one at a time).

The https://1password.community/discussion/101693/moving-to-1password-from-another-password-manager has a txt2notes converter which will add any referenced files, even in folders (optionally, recursively) and creates Secure Notes from those. This enhanced the feature of 1Password versions prior to 8 where you could drag simple text files into 1Password to create items. However, it handles only text and RTF files.

If it would help you, I could add a capability to the converter suite to do what you want. I'd just need your guidance as to how you'd like the feature to work (e.g. all files into a new single record? Each file into a new record?). It may be possible to re-work the txt2notes converter, or I may just create a new one for this purpose.

There is a limit on how much data you can push to 1Password. I believe it is 1 or 2 Gb. It won't be possible for the converter to know how much storage you've already used, so any attempt to import a generated 1PUX will just fail if that limit is exceeded.

Let me know your thoughts here.
